Benton County VINE Coverage
Missouri calls its service the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System, or MOVANS. The Missouri Victim Notification Portal separates local jail and detention data from MODOC and court-event data. For a Benton County Detention Facility booking, select the local detention provider. For a Missouri prison or state-supervision record, use the MODOC provider. A court subscription follows case events and must be registered separately when that information is wanted.
MOVANS is a status and notification aid, not a certified release record. A released result means the contributing provider changed the custody status it supplied. It does not reveal a legal release reason unless that field is actually present, and it does not rule out transfer to another jail, MODOC, federal custody, or another authority. The Benton County Sheriff’s release record remains the direct source for the local booking and movement event.

Search a Benton County Inmate
Begin with the custody system the person last entered. Someone arrested locally may be in the Benton jail provider, while a person sentenced to state prison may be in MODOC. Search by a known identifier when the portal permits it. A name-only result needs careful matching because a familiar name can belong to more than one person.
- Open the Missouri Victim Notification Portal and choose the search option.
- Select local jail or detention for a Benton booking, MODOC for state custody or supervision, or court events for the case.
- Enter the person’s first and last name or the identifier requested by the live form.
- Compare the holding agency, custody status, identifier, and any available photo or case context.
- Open the detail only after the agency and person match. Do not assume a similar name is the same record.
- Read the current status and event information, then save the provider name needed for confirmation.
If the local result is absent, try spelling variants and identifiers, then check whether the local provider may be offline. Do not infer release from silence. Note: A person missing from a live custody search may have been released, transferred, discharged, excluded, or simply mismatched.
Benton VINE Release Fields
The live provider controls which fields appear. Current research supports searching by name or identifier, matching a custody status and holding agency, and opening a person detail. A photograph may appear for some providers. Older official guides help explain the search design, but their channel instructions do not override Missouri’s May 2026 change for local detention records.

A scheduled event and a completed event are not the same. A notice about a planned release does not prove the person physically left at that time. A completed custody change also does not tell whether the person entered the community or another custodian’s control. The source agency’s record resolves those questions.
Register Benton County Release Alerts
Registration follows the selected person and provider. For a Benton County local-jail record after the statewide transition, use SMS and/or email. If court events also matter, create the separate court subscription instead of assuming one custody alert covers the docket. MODOC registration is likewise a different provider branch.
- Open the matched person detail in the correct provider.
- Select the custody event or court event for which a notice is offered.
- For a Benton local detention record, enter a working mobile number for SMS, an email address, or both.
- Complete the live confirmation prompt. Current interface evidence supports a six-digit confirmation code.
- Create or retain the four-digit PIN when the portal requests one, and store it with the confirmation details.
- Register custody and court events separately if both types of updates are needed.
- When an alert arrives, confirm the event with the holding agency or record custodian.
Do not copy old local-jail instructions that promise telephone calls or app alerts. Those channels ended for Missouri local detention notifications under the current transition. MODOC and court registrations that already used text or email followed a different transition path.
Benton MOVANS Changed in 2026
Missouri changed the local-jail notification layer on May 6, 2026. Benton County users must use the new portal and re-register local detention subscriptions. New local-jail notifications arrive through SMS or email, not telephone calls or the VINELink app. This change is why a generic VINELink guide can send a Benton user to a channel that no longer works for the local jail record.
Current local rule: Re-register Benton detention alerts in the Missouri portal and select SMS or email. Keep MODOC and court registrations separate.
A missing Benton result can also mean the local provider is offline. MOVANS support is available at movans@dps.mo.gov or 573-526-1929, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Support can address portal access or provider availability, but it cannot certify the Sheriff’s legal release reason.
The Missouri DPS transition notice controls the current Benton County local-jail workflow. Older brochures remain useful only for broad search concepts, separate subscriptions, and PIN history.
Note: Re-registration is specific to the new local-jail channel, while existing MODOC and court text or email subscriptions followed different rules.
Benton State Release Notifications
For a person held or supervised by MODOC, choose the state provider rather than the Benton jail branch. MODOC can cover prison and post-prison supervision events that do not appear in the county’s local provider. This state channel complements the Benton local-jail branch. It does not turn a MODOC alert into a certified Benton County release sheet.
Confirm a Benton VINE Release
When the portal reports a Benton jail release, record the name, provider, event, and notification time. Then check the Sheriff’s 48 Hour Release choice for the exact public release timestamp. That list is useful but expressly nonofficial and short-lived. Call the Benton County Detention Facility at 660-438-6135 or request the official booking, release, or movement record when the precise disposition matters.
Case.net or the Benton Circuit Clerk may show the court act that authorized bond, dismissal, probation, or another legal result. The court entry may predate physical processing and may not expose an outside hold. If transfer to state custody is possible, search the MODOC Offender Web Search. An institutional result shows that release from Benton custody did not mean release into the community.
For finally discharged state offenders, the active MODOC search is incomplete by design. It excludes discharged people. The nightly historical file and a formal MODOC Sunshine request are the more durable routes. A VINE inmate check is best treated as one timed signal in that evidence chain, not the whole chain.
The Sheriff’s local display and MOVANS also have different retention roles. Benton’s official public product is labeled “48 Hour Release,” so it can briefly show a booking photograph, booking number, booking and release times, charges, and bond. It does not publish a verified release-reason field, and the Sheriff states that the online information is not the official record. MOVANS may preserve a useful alert for a registered user, but that message does not replace the Sheriff’s booking, release, or transfer entry. When the web card has expired, provide the custodian with the person’s full name, date of birth if known, booking number, and approximate dates.
State-prison verification requires the same care at a different level. An active MODOC result can describe a person who left prison on parole or conditional release and remains under field supervision. That person is released from the institution but is not finally discharged. If MODOC shows an institutional location after Benton’s county release time, the two records can fit together: Benton may have transferred the person to state custody. When the active search shows nothing, review historical FAK930 rows by MODOC ID and reconcile every charge because one completed row does not establish completion of all sentences.
Case.net supplies another check when a custody notice lacks context. A Benton County court docket may show bond, dismissal, judgment, probation, or a later warrant event. The court entry explains legal authority but may occur before jail staff complete physical processing, and it may not reveal a separate hold. Compare its time and case number with the Sheriff record and the MOVANS provider before describing the event as a completed community release.
Note: Match every alert to its provider because “released” can mean the end of one custodian’s control, not freedom from all custody.
Benton VINE Check Limits
MOVANS does not cover the Federal Bureau of Prisons or ICE. A federal sentenced person requires the BOP locator, where “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” is limited to BOP custody. ICE has its own locator for current and certain recent custody. A federal pretrial person may require the federal docket and the physical holding facility because the U.S. Marshals Service has no public individual locator.
Data can lag, provider connections can fail, and a search can miss aliases or identifiers. Some information may also be unavailable for safety, security, confidentiality, sealing, or expungement reasons. A release alert cannot establish the release reason, eliminate a detainer, or prove that every sentence has ended.
Use MOVANS for what it does well: follow a matched person, preserve the selected provider, and receive a prompt signal when that provider reports a change. Use the Sheriff, MODOC, court, BOP, or ICE record to answer the next question.
